Marco Müller 4tet
Paris, Vienna, Hamburg, Berlin, groovy power music on big stages - that's one world in which bassist Marco Müller is active. The other is quite different. It takes place in his home, a tiny hamlet in the Bernese highlands, where wood is still used for heating and where music is created that is a little quieter. With this quartet, Marco Müller's second world is now being given space for the first time. And he himself, a sideman for decades (Hildegard lernt fliegen, Marc Perrenoud Trio), is moving into the spotlight as a leader, but prefers to step back again in favor of the freedom of the other players. "The band is a collective, I just gave the starting impulse," he says. Now the four of them, all nationally known characters on their instruments, are on stage with their first album and are always open about the direction it might take. Sometimes Marco Müller's fresh country air really blows the audience away, sometimes Kevin Chesham's urban city flair heats the place up, and sometimes New York energy, which both Dimitri Howald and Lukas Thoeni have recently been exposed to, really gets things vibrating. Only two things are clear from the outset: there are four people who really like each other. And who can hardly wait to make music together that is characterized by the moment.
